This article explores the external environmental factors that affected organizational change at Joseph鈥檚 University and Villanova University鈥攖wo private Catholic institutions in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania鈥攔esulting in differentiated market positions at each institution. Specifically, the role of demographic changes and the role of intercollegiate athletics was assessed.
