Pride Month began in June of 1970. Its inception resulted from the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, in which the New York Police Department raided a popular gay bar in Manhattan. Although these instances occurred more than once, it was the first time gay individuals fought back, thus becoming the catalyst for the Gay Liberation Movement. The purpose of celebrating Pride Month is to acknowledge and appreciate the impacts and social movements that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual activists have made throughout history.

̽»¨Â¥ LGBTQIA+ Caucus Chair Chris Dorsten shared a few words about how his involvement in the Caucus influenced his participation as a member of the association and his career path:

̽»¨Â¥'s LGBTQIA+ Caucus has served...[a] pivotal role in my coming out as a professional in higher education. Without the Caucus, I'm not sure that I would have had the courage or the support to be who I am today as an "out" professional.
