Letter from the Editor May 2025

Dear Readers,

Last summer, my father and I planted a rose bush as part of a family tradition. Each day, my rose bush reminds me, as the saying goes, to literally stop and smell it. Its scent and beauty slow me down for a moment during the hustle to my car, or while rushing out to get my daily steps in. I hope that you can hear a whisper from your campus, now hushed after commencement, offering you an invitation to pause.

The word "" comes from the Greek “pauein,” as a prompt to hold back. And that’s where we are—a personal hold date on the academic calendar. For many, the parking lots are less full, dorms are empty, and the student center hums at low volume.

Let the stillness guide you into a remembrance of the passage of time and the people who inhabit our lives and campuses. Growth, like roses, demands both bloom and rest.

In this issue:

With appreciation,

Autumn Walden
