Our College & University Journal stands as a living archive of the enduring values of our association. Last week, ̽»¨Â¥ released the second issue in the 100th volume of C&U, as this peer-reviewed journal celebrates 100 years of sharing knowledge and inspiring action in admissions and records/registrations professions.
“For the C&U 100th Anniversary, we wanted to show our gratitude and dedication to all of the people who make the journal successful,” said Heather Zimar, Managing Editor of Journals and Publications at ̽»¨Â¥. “This includes editorial board members who provide thoughtful feedback on submissions and help guide the strategic direction of the journal. We also wanted to highlight the recent editors-in-chief who have impacted the success of the journal and to continue highlighting the work of our authors alongside the anniversary content.”
Issue Highlights
Volume 100, Issue 2 opens with compelling feature pieces, including:
The C&U 100 section honors the journal's 100-year legacy through reflective pieces from current and former editorial board members, offering unique historical perspectives on the evolution of higher education and lessons that remain relevant today. “Long-time contributor Monique Snowden wrote a great piece on what it means to serve on an editorial board, and a former board member, Sharon Cramer, submitted an anniversary reflection piece,” added Zimar.
The Forum section also delivers practical insights with ̽»¨Â¥'s annual research update covering six 2024 projects, professional development guidance, case studies on organizational change, and an interview with Indiana University Indianapolis's Dr. P.J. Woolston on strategic enrollment management.
The issue concludes with an analysis of transfer pathway challenges and solutions, demonstrating our continued commitment to research-grounded articles that inform practice across the admissions and records professions. “Throughout Volume 100,” remarked Zimar, “you’ll also see the great design created by .”
A Community of Authors
Our C&U editorial leadership continues to cultivate an inspired community of authors, who recently gathered during a writers' webinar. “It was so wonderful to see so many new authors join the webinar with interest in contributing to the profession through writing,” noted Zimar. “We had 56 people attend the webinar, many of whom had signed up to be one of our 100 new authors as part of the C&U 100th Anniversary at the 110th ̽»¨Â¥ Annual Meeting. One attendee suggested we create an for writers, which we have created to support writers, answer questions, and facilitate writers’ groups.”
When asked about tips to offer aspiring authors thinking about submitting to the journal, especially those who may be new to academic or professional publishing, Zimar recommended, “Read previous issues of the journal to become familiar with the format and the range of topics we publish. Consider getting your feet wet by writing a book review or co-authoring an article with a colleague, and have someone else review your article prior to submission. In addition, we are always happy to hear authors' ideas, look at outlines, and review drafts to make sure authors are on the right track.”
