Land Acknowledgement
As we gather for ̽»¨Â¥’s Strategic Enrollment Management Conference in Las Vegas, we honor and acknowledge the land and resources that sustain us.
We recognize that we are on the sacred ancestral lands of the Nuwu (Southern Paiute), Washoe, Numu (Northern Paiute), Nuwe (Hualapai), and Chemehuevi peoples. Indigenous communities who have lived, thrived, and stewarded the lands now known as Nevada for countless generations.
We also recognize all 27 sovereign tribal nations across Nevada, whose histories, cultures, and contributions are essential to the fabric of this region.
We acknowledge the enduring impacts of genocide, forced removal, and settler colonialism, realities that continue to affect Native and Indigenous communities today. We honor the past, present, and future stewards of this land and affirm our responsibility to listen, learn, and act in support of justice and equity.
Land acknowledgements are just one part of broader, ongoing efforts toward inclusion and systemic change in higher education. We encourage continued reflection and action as we work collectively to create educational spaces that respect and elevate Indigenous voices and experiences.
